Andy writes:
Creature Factory has evolved in many different ways since my earliest sketches roughly eight months ago. Even though its main production period was only about two weeks - resulting in roughly 40 hours of captured material - it had to appear as if it could’ve been part of something bigger.
So I kept onadding and adding stuff, until it became too complicated and literally turned into this huge monster… And then when Project Peach started I couldn’t finish it anymore.
Most recently I had a look through the original first 40 hours and realized that by themselves, they already conveyed what I wanted to show in the first place - without all the unnecessary extra pieces I prefer to treat separately in a more elaborate way later on.
On the disc you will find everything I created for the Creature Factory teaser. The 40 hours have been sped up and commented. There are also some extra tutorials to document the techniques used more in-depth. Of course you also get all the blender files, textures and steps saved in the process.
I hope you find it useful, enjoy!

Things to come
June 5th, 2008 by Junenew site!
June 1st, 2008 by JuneHi everyone!
Andy is pretty busy with some projects, so he asked me to handle all the website business and email contacts from now on. We managed to get a new site running today, as well as a new and updated gallery.
As far as Andy is concerned, after finishing an article for 3Dworld and the magazine cover, he disappeared to Amsterdam where he supports the online release of Big Buck Bunny, as well as finishing his Creature Factory Tutorial DVD and giving Blender courses. He will give a talk about the movie together with director Sacha Goedegebure at CGOverdrive, Singapore. Until further notice all the communication will be handled by me.
More to come, enjoy our new site!

up to scale

just found this old picture sitting around in my photo folder. i took it shortly before i left to amsterdam in late august 15 last year.
it shows an enormously huge print of moonman that was featured on the blender booth at siggraph 2006. left it drying in the sun after some cleaning and waiting to be packed for the journey to the peach. now it’s probably collecting dust again somewhere here in the blender institute…
hmm… blue
a striking similarity…
February 3rd, 2008 by andyhey!during the past months i’ve been getting occasional emails and private messages from friends and fellow blender users informing me that a certain graphics card (manufacturing/packaging?) company has published a graphics card box using a rip-off version of one of my early character pictures in their advertising campaign. they seem to have altered the image or painted it over in some way… so i decided to ignore it for the time being, since it seems that there isnt much i can do about it.but last week i got another email from fellow blenderhead roy schulz who found the actual graphics card package in a computer store. this sparked my interest again, since the similarity between the two characters is rather striking. see for yourself:
now what?

Blender is the premier open source package for modeling, shading, animation, rendering, compositing, editing and game creation. it is used by hobbyists, professionals, studios and institutions around the world for a large variety of applications ranging from architectural design, commercials, motion graphics, illustrative art up to full blown cinematic movie productions.
For students / (emerging) artists like us Blender is especially interesting because it gives them the full flexibility / power of the movie industry to realize our projects - without depending on student licenses and / or large wallets. In this workshop we explore all the things that blender can offer… and more.
